Course Overview

This course is designed to enable students to take advantage of the many opportunities presented by the online trading environment in order to develop and grow an existing business or to create an opportunity to start their own business. Students who undertake this course will be introduced to the fundamentals of e-commerce and digital marketing activities which will enable them to establish their online business and create the appropriate content (photo, video, blogs, web content, social media content) and campaigns (search advertising, promoting social media content) to be capable of promoting their goods or services online. They will also have the capacity to build or maintain a basic website and will understand a variety of e-commerce business models. They will also be capable of using excel, word and powerpoint. Students will have the opportunity to develop an e-commerce business plan, either for a client organisation identified with the assistance of the ITB Civic Engagement team, their own employer or for a future business which they may wish to start.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course should be in a position to taking advantage of the opportunity created by the increasing number of businesses who are looking to trade online. They would be qualified for a digital marketing executive or e-commerce executive roles.

Minimum Entry Requirements

A pass in five subjects (ordinary level) in the Leaving Certificate to include Mathematics and English or Irish, or an equivalent qualification. Leaving Certificate Mathematics at foundation level grade H3 or higher is acceptable. The minimum entry requirement for FETAC level 5 or level 6 graduates is any full award

Monday and Wednesday 4-6pm (online)
Thursday 6-10pm (on campus)
4 x Saturdays (full days) per semester


Note: It is anticipated that students will need to attend on campus for the first week of each semester
