The Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) has warmly welcomed the announcement today by the Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin TD, of the allocation of funding valued at over €60 million to the Institutes of Technology sector, under the Strategic Innovation Fund, Cycle 2 (SIF 2). Half of the funding comes directly from SIF 2 and the remainder as contributions from each participating Institute.

ITB has secured funding valued at €4 million for its projects including an exciting, new initiative, the Dublin Regional Higher Education Alliance (DRHEA) which see the 4 universities and 4 IOTS in the Dublin area working together in areas including Widening Participation, Graduate mobility and Enhancing Learning.

Also funded as part of SIF 2 is a project investigating how entrepreneurship and exploiting commercial opportunities can be taught in a third level environment and an additional sector wide project involving all Institutes of Technology valued at €20 million was also approved.

Expressing her delight at the investment, Dr Mary Meaney, Director of ITB, said: 'We are particularly enthused about the DRHEA projects given our specific mission to widen access to third level'. Dr Meaney went on to say 'Collaboration through imagination is what the Strategic Innovation Fund is all about. The Fund will greatly enhance the collective efforts of all in third and fourth level and ensure that our drive to maintain high standards is built on close cooperation between all institutions in the sector.'

"Basically the course covers everything to do with digital and online media. I had it as a hobby in sixth year but when I came here I learned so much more."
