The Institute of Technology Blanchardstown is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Diarmuid O'Callaghan as President.

Dr. O'Callaghan has worked in ITB for the past 15 years, initially in the role of Registrar and member of the senior leadership team, and more recently as part of a team to support the designation of three colleges as a technological university. In the role of Registrar, he was responsible for a broad range of academic and student services, including admissions, examinations, institution records, student supports, IT, Library and quality assurance. His role included responsibility for obtaining delegation of authority to confer awards and maintaining that awarding authority.

More recently, he has participated as a key member of a transformation team tasked with preparing three Institutes of Technology (IT Blanchardstown, DIT and IT Tallaght) to merge into one legal entity and then seeking designation as a Technological University.

Prior to assuming the position of Registrar, Diarmuid was a lecturer and researcher in University College Dublin for 15 years. His academic area of expertise was in animal nutrition and reproduction as a member of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. O'Callaghan succeeds Dr. Mary Meaney who stood down in August to take up a new role relating to the Technological University for Dublin.

'It is a great honour for me to build on the many achievements of Dr. Mary Meaney and become President of ITB at this exciting stage in our journey towards becoming one of Ireland's first technological universities', said Dr. O'Callaghan. 'My overarching objective is to continue to support our students, our community and our region by being designated as a technological university, while we continue to make education available and accessible to students from all walks of life.'

Welcoming Dr O'Callaghan's appointment, Prof. Tom Collins, Chair of ITB's Governing Body, said 'Diarmuid has a distinguished record of achievement in the academic sphere. He is eminently qualified to continue the growth and development of the Institute and in that task he will be greatly assisted by the quality and commitment of the team that has been built at ITB.'

"Basically the course covers everything to do with digital and online media. I had it as a hobby in sixth year but when I came here I learned so much more."
