Wednesday 21st of November 2012 will be noted down as an historic day for ITB (Institute of Technology Blanchardstown) GAA club. This was the day that the Senior footballers conquered the might of the University of Limerick to book their place in next year’s prestigious Sigerson Cup and Division 1 league.

The victorious ITB team travelled to Ballykelly (Kildare) to play in their second Division 2 final in two years losing last year’s final by a solitary point after extra time to Trinity College. This year there was to be no repeat of the heartbreak with Oisin O Connell, senior Cavan panellist scoring the winning point one minute into injury time. The game finished on a score line of ITB 0-8 – 0-7 UL. Captain Eoin Woods raised the cup for ITB.

The ITB team to be playing in third level college’s highest competition is a great achievement considering the fact that the team has been in existence for only twelve years. The ITB team was co-founded by former Cavan Senior manager Val Andrews in 2000 . Along with Val, full-time Sports Development Officer Ronan Keaskin has been working with the GAA club since 2001 to achieve this long term goal. Graham Gerathy (Meath) was brought on board two years ago to work alongside Val and Ronan in the training and management of the team.

The introduction of the ITB Sports Management and Coaching Degree, the establishment of a Sports Scholarship scheme along with the strengthening of the infrastructure within the GAA club has brought ITB to a new level and the college now hopes to build on this success and to establish ITB within Third Level GAA circles.

"Basically the course covers everything to do with digital and online media. I had it as a hobby in sixth year but when I came here I learned so much more."
