Engineers Ireland sponsors "Achievement of Excellence Award" for ITB

On November 10, 2016, The Membership Director of Engineers Ireland (EI), Mr Denis McCarthy, delivered a lecture to Year 1 students in the Department of Engineering as part of the Professional Development for Engineers module.

 

 

Mr McCarthy's lecture on Engineering as a Career covered :
- The role of EI in the accreditation of engineering programmes.
- The importance of professional titles as formal recognition of competence at Technician, Technologist or Professional Engineer Qualification.
- Engineers Ireland's partnerships with both academia and industry.
- The different categories of membership and the opportunity for undergraduates enrolled in Accredited Engineering Programme to benefit from free EI membership.
- The opportunities available through the Student Membership to guide undergraduate students towards qualification as professional engineer after completion of their programmes.
- Region, division and society groups within EI, and opportunities for student members to engage.
- Annual social events organised by the Young Engineers Society division of EI.
- Sponsorship of undergraduate engineering societies.
- E-learning and mentoring opportunities available to Engineering Student via the EI membership.
- The value of transferable skills such as communication skills, teamwork skills and technical writing skills to the professional engineering practice.

 

 

During the visit, Mr McCarthy announced the inaugural "Engineers Ireland Achievement of Excellence Award", to the value of Euro 150 plus a certificate. The winner will be nominated on the basis of both Coursework and engineering related extracurricula projects by students in Year 1 of study. Engineers Ireland also offered to provide support the ITB Engineering Society activities to the value of Euro 200 per Academic Year.
